A research, clinical, educational and community oriented facility specialising in mood disorders. It facilitates a second opinion service for people with severe and/or treatment-resistant mood disorders through a number of clinics (Depression Clinic and Bipolar Clinic–this is strictly an assessment, no treatment involved). Psychology clinic also offered for people with mood disorders (ongoing treatment). Professional education and training programs are conducted for psychiatrists, general practitioners, psychologists and other mental health practitioners. Also conducts an extensive research program and regularly recruits volunteer participants in research trials. Support groups for people with bipolar and depression, social anxiety, separation anxiety & gambling (only run when there are enough participants). Centre for Clinical Interventions

The Centre for Clinical Interventions (CCI) provides a clinical service for adults with complex mental health disorders and all individuals with comprehensive multi-axial clinical assessment. CCI also provides Treatment programs, Individual therapy and Specialist Group Programs that conducts an adjunctive cognitive behavioural group intervention for people with bipolar disorder.

The focus of this treatment program is on providing individuals with information about their illness, helping them identify early warning signs that precede a mood episode, and teaching them strategies to prevent hypomanic or manic episodes and to manage depressive episodes more effectively. CCI also conducts a cognitive behavioural group intervention for people with social phobia and social anxiety disorder.

CCI also provides a Bipolar Disorder Program and support meeting for family, friends and carers of someone with bipolar disorder. The sessions are free but you will need to express interest in advance so CCI can know how many sessions to schedule.

Please note that all treatment programme participants require a referral and to have completed a clinical assessment at CCI prior to being accepted for treatment. Please see our Referral Information section for further details about the referral process. Organisation Hours: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

Newport Bipolar Support Group

The purpose of our support group is to provide an opportunity for people living with bipolar disorder to connect with those with similar experiences. Group members gain strength and support from each other, and learn new ways of coping through sharing feelings, knowledge, information and ideas. Speakers on topics like mental health services or health and well-being are also arranged at regular intervals. The Newport Bipolar Support Group holds fortnightly meetings at Outlets Neighbourhood House.

South Yarra Mood Disorders Support Group

This support group is a pioneer of support groups in Melbourne and has been operating for more than 18 years.

Goals of the Mood Disorders Support Group are:
– to provide friendship and support to those with a mood disorder, their family and friends
– to educate sufferers, families and the general public about the management of the disorder
– to improve the quality of health care and the general wellbeing of our members
– to promote research into the causes and improved treatment of uni-polar
– bipolar and general anxiety and depressive illnesses
– recognise depression and other mood disorders as illnesses
– realise that depression is not all of who you are; be informed about the disorder and treatments available
– Take an active role in your own treatment and stress management; utilise specialist professional advice.

The Mood Disorders Support Group meets every third Tuesday of the month from 7.30 to 9.00 pm. Meetings are free and anyone with a mood disorder, their family or friends are welcome to attend.
